Tooth Extraction in Mission Valley, CA

Compassionate Care

At Salt and Smile Dental Co., we’ll do everything we can to save a damaged tooth. But in some cases, extraction is the best option to preserve the patient’s oral health.

There are a number of reasons why Dr. Yaz might recommend removal: for example, a tooth may be severely damaged by trauma or infection, the patient’s smile could be overcrowded, or the patient could be suffering from additional medical issues that make tooth extraction near you the safest option.

Dr. Yaz will only remove a tooth if doing so is the best way to preserve your oral health.

The Mission Valley Tooth Extraction Process

If Dr. Yaz determines that removing the tooth is the right option, he can complete the extraction during a routine visit or a scheduled appointment.

Each of your teeth sits in your jawbone in an area called the tooth socket. Your mouth’s soft tissue holds the tooth in the socket, providing stability when you’re eating or speaking.

The extraction begins with Dr. Yaz using a local anesthetic to numb your mouth. Once you’re feeling comfortable, he’ll start to gradually rock the tooth back and forth, loosening it in the socket. As soon as it’s unattached, we can remove the tooth. The entire process only takes a few minutes.

What to Do After an Tooth Extraction

You’ll want to take some time to rest and relax following an extraction. Your body will naturally form a blood clot at the affected area, initiating the healing process. It’s important not to disturb or dislodge the clot.

During the first 72 hours we recommend lightly rinsing your mouth, but don’t flush too much, drink alcohol, or brush your teeth near the concerned area.

Dr. Yaz will prescribe pain medication for your recovery — be sure to use it as directed. If you’re still feeling pain or discomfort, contact our office right away.

You can resume your regular dental routine when your mouth feels comfortable. It typically takes about one to three weeks before you’re fully recovered and ready to resume your normal routine.

Replacing Extracted Teeth

In a healthy smile with no missing teeth, the teeth support one another by holding each other in place. When one or more teeth are missing, your remaining teeth will begin to shift position — this can lead to irritation and gum disease that could eventually result in the loss of additional teeth.

At Salt and Smile Dental Co., we recommend replacing missing teeth as soon as possible. Whether the tooth was lost due to damage, decay, or extraction, dental implants are the ideal tooth replacement option.

Natural-looking dental implants protect your smile by holding your remaining teeth in place and also by stimulating healthy jawbone growth. No other restoration can do this.
